Viewing Record Details

You can view records in two formats in the web client - the hit-list display or the details display. The fields that are displayed in these formats are determined by the style sheets used in the Web Admin.Client. These can be configured by the system administrator. Initially the whole MARC record is obtained from the target , the style sheet then determines what fields are displayed.

Hit list Display

Brief bibliographic details are shown in a list immediately after obtaining results from a search.

To search:

1.Enter your search criteria and submit the search.

2.As soon as records become available they are automatically displayed in the hit-list format.

3.Use the scroll bar on the right to view records on a page. 1 2 3... Use the page numbers or right arrow to see more pages of records.

4.If you leave the hit-list display at any point, you can return to it by clicking the results button at the top of the screen.

Details Display

More details are shown individually for each record.

To search:

1.Enter your search criteria and submit the search.

2.As soon as records become available they are automatically displayed in the hitlist format.

4.In the details display click the Next/Previous result arrows to display the details of the next/previous record.

5.To return to the hit-list click the results button at the top of the screen.

In the web client there are other places where you can choose between hit-list display and details display, for example in the Saved List.

Viewing Book Covers

An illustration of the book cover can be displayed on both the brief and full display. The availability of this functionality will depend on whether your library has access to this facility and whether you are a member of a resource group that has access to the images.

Hyperlinks to the document or other text

You can access an electronic copy of a document (or related information e.g. table of contents, author or publisher information), if it has a clickable hyperlink. If present these links are visible:

in the hit-list display. An electronic copy of a document can be accessed from the hit-list display. Example in hit-list

or in the details display. From the details screen you can obtain more info and then click on the hyperlink to go straight to the resource. There can be more information here, for example it may tell you the type of resource. (This detail is created by OCLC NRE/VDX Support.

Viewing Holdings information

A summary of the holdings is shown in the brief record display.

Full details are shown on the details display - Click the collapsible Holdings link to list all the holdings for the current item.

The holdings displays can be sorted by library defined rules before being displayed. Holdings can be sorted by:

Preset: Match the holdings location to a rota location, and sort by the relevant rota sequence.

Willingness to Supply: Match against the 'willingness to provide' by holdings locations and sort in ‘First Resort – Last Resort’ order. (Willingness to supply is part of rota selection criteria set up by OCLC NRE/VDX Support)

Location Group: Sort the holdings by groups that the borrower/requester or lender/responder belong in. The more remote the connection between borrower/requester or lender/responder, the higher the sort value (i.e. lower rank). If both locations belong to the same group, the rank will be higher.

The holdings list is displayed in the web client after merging and sorting by rank into a holdings list sorted by the numeric sequence, as defined by the rules set for the above areas configured by OCLC NRE/VDX support.

WorldCat records: if VDX is showing Location holdings from WorldCat, the full name of the holding library is displayed, together with the OCLC Symbol.

Link to OCLC's WorldCat.org (optional)

VDX can be configured to allow access to WorldCat from the current item details display. To access WorldCat, click on the WorldCat logo. The option can be configured to perform a search for the current item by ISBN only, or by ISBN and specified location.

Note: this option is switched off by default.

Saved List

You can add records to a temporary 'wish list' by clicking on the Save button.
